Key Responsibilities of a Bursar/Student Accounts Manager
The Bursar/Student Accounts Manager at the Institute of Medical Ultrasound (IMU) is responsible for overseeing student financial accounts, including billing, collections, and payment processing, in compliance with institutional policies and applicable regulations. This role plays a key part in supporting student success by ensuring accurate financial information and responsive service while also protecting the institutions financial interests. The Specialist leads policy development and continuous improvement of financial procedures and provides oversight of account management operations.
Student Accounts:
Manage student billing, tuition payments, and fees
Monitor student accounts, including late payments and payment plans
Process student refunds and adjustments
Financial Management:
Oversee cash management, including receipts and disbursements
Manage student accounts receivable
Prepare financial reports and analysis
Manage day-to-day operations of student accounts, including tuition invoicing, payment plans, collections, third-party billing, and disbursement processing.
Provide management oversight for staff or student workers, ensuring efficient workflow and high-quality customer service.
Collaborate with Financial Aid, Admissions, and Academic Affairs to ensure accurate and timely student account updates and resolve discrepancies.
Monitor student receivables and implement strategies to minimize outstanding balances and delinquencies.
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and university regulations
Adhere to accounting standards and best practices
Ensure institutional compliance with all applicable federal and state laws, including FERPA, Title IV (if applicable), IRS regulations for 1098-T reporting, and any accreditor requirements.
Monitor adherence to IMUs tuition and refund policies, ensuring consistency and legal compliance.
Maintain proper documentation and audit readiness for all student account activities.
Other Duties:
Collaborate with third party financial aid consultants and other departments, such as financial aid or admissions
Advising on financial projects, policies, and tuition changes
Qualifications:
Must have 5 years of student accounts experience preferably in an allied health setting. NetSuite software experience preferred
Bachelors degree in accounting, business or finance
Detail oriented and able to meet deadlines
Excellent computer skills using Excel
Excellent communications skills
